Highlights of the March 21, 2002,  Regular Meeting of the Minford Local Board of Education

A number of persons attended the board meeting with concerns over the hiring of a head football coach.

John Bingham and Greg Romanello of Gilbane updated the Board on the Middle/Primary School Building Project.

Dr. Randall Schlegel, Safe, Drug Free Schools Coordinator, Provided information on his program in creating awareness about drug and alcohol abuse with students and staff.

Dr. Meade read a letter of congratulations from PILASCO-Ross SERRC Director, Don Washburn, concerning the excellent special education review of Minford's programs by the State Department of Education.  He also read the excellent results of the State Food Services Review concerning our breakfast and lunch programs.  Faculty and staff are congratulated on a job well done.

Also reported was the possiblilty of being a pilot school for the Battelle for Kids Education Research Program.

In action, the board:
 

  • Approved the retirement request of Kenneth Knore, High School Mathematics teacher.  Kenn has served Minford School for the past 24 years adn was the pioneer in adopting the Saxon Series in Algebra for our High School students. His many years of teaching our students is appreciated very much.  Kenn is wished the best in the future.
  • Entered into agreement with the South Central Ohio Media Center for the 2002-2003 school year; also for Low Incidence; Preschool Handicapped, Speech/language and Psychological/special education services.
  • Accepted the amounts and tax rates for the Budget Commission and Auditor.
  • Accepted a donation from Southern Ohio Medical Center for High School fitness equipment.
  • Renewed membership in the Education Tax Policy Institute for 2002
  • Employed Janice Taylor as a home instruction teacher
  • Entered into agreement with Rio Grande University for students taching and field based experience
  • Approved the request to change a name of certified personnel to Tara Susan Byrd.
  • Adjusted the supplemental contract of S. Brent Daniels, Varsity Baseball Coach to reflect additional experience.
