Highlights of the November 21, 2002, Regular metting of the Minford Local Board of Education

Discussion was held concerning the Portsmouth By-Pass, Virtual Classroom Academy and the building project. The results of the History Contest, held through Ohio University, saw our students take the top four spots out of the top, six in the county at O.U. and score in the top 248 out 9,000 students who took the test statewide. Top scores in the state include Jonathan Henry who will go for further competition, followed closely by Ashley Seidel, John Luther of Scioto County JVS, Erica Lawrence, Joe Morris of Sciotoville and Andrew O'Dell.

In action, the Board:

* Recognized several volunteers for teams.

* Set Graduation 2003 on Sunday, June 1, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. in the High School Gymnasium.

* Approved out-of-state trips for the Baseball Team and the Band.

* Employed Raymond Wheeler, Jr. as Assistant Maintenance Supervisor.

* Employed Dianne Ramsey as a part-time Aide.

* Accepted a donation from Wal-Mart for the Middle School's Southern Ohio Homeless/Homeless Veterans' Walk.

* Employed Cynthia Adkins as head Cook assigned to the High School.

* Employed Courtney Preston as Assistant Cheerleader Advisor.

* Employed Karen Davis as a home instruction teacher.

* Authorized the Treasurer to establish the buildings project retainage account with J.P. Morgan Institutional Investments, Inc. as required.

* Rejected all bids for reconstruction of the varsity and practice fields.

* Authorized the Treasurer to rebid the football fields project with specifications.

* Changed the time of the next regular board meeting.

The Next regular meeting of the Minford Local Board of Education will be December 19, 2002, at 5:00 p.m. in the high school media center.

Report Card
Minford Schools Are
"Effective"

Congratulations to all our district personnel, students and parents for all their efforts in pursuing higher achievement. As a result, the Minford Local School District's Report Card will show an achievment of seventeen out of twenty-two indicators as identified by the Ohio Department of Education.

Minford is Number One

Add to that the recent accomplishment of our fourth grade students in achieving the highest percent of passage on the State Reading test in the County, 56% for the fall trial, and you have all the makings for a celebration K-12.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Keith and Kristi Wiehle on the birth of their son, Samuel Levi, on November 14th. Samuel weighed 8 lbs. 15 ozs. and was 20 1/2 inches long.
