Highlights of the May 27, 2003, Regular Meeting of the Minford Board of Education

The Board observed a performance of Kyle Tennant who reprised his wax museum
role as a historical figure, Paleontologist P.T. Brown, as part of the Middle School program.

Dr. Randall Schlegel updated the Board on our Safe, Drug-Free Schools program
includinga new program, S.A.T., Student Assistance Team, where teachers and staff receive
training through the Ohio Masons, to help at-risk students. Debbie Allen, B Jo Allen, Kendra Cram
and Tara Estep are members of this team who presented the program to the Board.

High School Band Director, Jaymon Martin, updated the Board on the
expansion of the instrumental band program and expressed his appreciation
for the support given to the Fine Arts program at Minford.

Kendra Cram discussed the success of the R.A.D. (Reading and Discovery) program, an intervention
reading program at the Middle School. Reading post-test scores from the program displayed
a much improved outlook for those students who were served. June Book served as the resource
person for the program.

Warren Whitsell and Paul Throgmorton, of Gilbane Construction Management Firm,
presented updated financial information on the project which is under budget and should
have life/safety inspections on June 10th for the primary portion of the K-8 building.
Other projects which will be funded include a stage in the high school gym with enhanced
sound system (six speakers - three speakers on each side in the rafters and a stage speaker
in the front).

The Board went into Executive Session to address the request of Randy Childers
to meet with the Board.

In action, the Board:

Approved the list of graduate candidates for 2003.

Authorized membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

Authorized the Treasurer to close out FY 2003.

Approved continuing the Adult Ed Program through the summer in cooperation
with the Northwest Local School District.

Approved several sport camps.

Provided for a summer intervention program grades 1-8.

Noted the transfer of Julie Gleim from Title One to English, assigned to the high school.

Approved participation as a partner in the South Central Ohio Entry Year Program.

Approved mike Balestra to provide GAAP Services.

Entered into agreement with Shakeley for Managed Care for Workers Comp.

Approved the Record Commission Meeting list for disposal of records.

Adopted the Narrative Version of the Model Procedures for
Education of Children with Disabilities.

Continued the agreement with Pursuing Other Interests, Inc. For substance
awareness and deterrent services.

Employed Amy O'Dell as the Summer Intervention Coordinator.

Postponed action on food service policy recommendations.

Employed Theresa Havens as Middle School Quiz Bowl Advisor.

Noted the receipt of the Facility Maintenance Plan as completed by
Four Seasons Environmentals, Inc.

Changed the date of the Regular June meeting to June 30, 2003 at 6:00 p.m.
in the high school media center.

Rescinded an earlier resolution not employing Randy Childers in April and
employed Childers as Jr. High Football Coach for the 2003-2004 school year.

Compensated Bonnie Smith and Joyce O'Dell for the Before School Program
as part of Community Education.

Employed several summer substitute custodians.

Approved having a special board meeting on June 9th, 6:00p.m. in the high school
media center to consider construction bids and any other general business.

Authorized the Treasurer to advertise for bids concerning the building project,
paved parking lots and playground/parking lots.

Approved entering into agreements for extended services for eligible hadicapped students.

Authorized an out-of-state trip to Camden Park for the Primary Incentive Program.

Reconized the formation of the Middle School Assistance Team (S.A.T) for school year 2003-2004.

The next regular meeting of the Minford Local Board of Education will be
June 30, 2003, at 6:00 p.m. in the high school media center, 491 Bond Road, Minford.
