Highlights of the December 19, 2002, Regular Meeting of the Minford Local Board of Education

Dr. Tracy Alley and members of her 3 R's Club made a presentation to the Board. The Club, while not exclusive for girls, does encourage girls to look at science and related fields.

Dr. Randall Schlegel discussed the receipt of the Asset Builders Award presented to Minford School District during a recent conference in Columbus.

Dr. Meade, Superintendent discussed the participation of several districts in the oraganization of the Southeast Center of Excellence in Science and Mathematics should funding be approved. Ohio University, Rio Grande University and Shawnee State university will participate in forming partnerships with area school districts to work to improve students' knowledge of science and math.

Greg Romanello, of Gilbane Regency Polytech, discussed the current status of the primary renovation and building project. Unless weather delays construction, the new construction should be finished in May 2003.

In action, the Board:

* Set the Budget Hearing for January 9, 2003, at noon in the Treasurer's Office.

* Set the Organizational Meeting for January 9, 2003, 6:00 p.m. in the High School Media Center, 491 Bond Road, Minford.

* Approved continuing participation in the Community Work Program.

* Approved membership in the Ohio School Boards Association.

* Approved a Memorandum of Understanding with O.A.P.S.E.

* Employed Robert Ashley Varsity ead Football Coach for the 2003-2004 school year.

* Approved contract adjustments for Maintenance Supervisor, Chris Downey, Transportation Supervisor, Kenneth Ray Bayes, Food Service Supervisor, Sharon Hardyman and Security Supervisor, Vancil Deemer.

* Employed Eleanor Karshner as Treasurer on a two year contract.

* Employed Sheree Cordle as a part-time, as-needed aide.

* Noted the transfer of Custodian, Freda Sexton, from the middle school to the high school.

* Recognized Ed Cox and Jim Applegate as Volunteer Indoor Outdoor Track Coaching Assistants.

* Accepted a bid from J and H Erectors for reconstruction of the football and practice fields.

* Employed Don Gleim as a Home Instruction Teacher.

* Approved Ken Genry's attendance at a music conference.

The Next regular meeting of the Minford Local Board of Education wil be January 29, 2003, at 6:00 p.m. in the high school media center, 491 Bond Road, Minford.
