Highlights of the April 29, 2003, Regular Meeting of the Minford Local Board of Education Mark Holsinger of Tanner and Stone Architects and Greg Romanello of Gilbane Construction Management Firm were present to update the Board on the current building project and to discuss further projects. The project completion date is June 10 for the Primary portion of the new elementary K-8 building. Dennis Meade, Superintendent updated the Board on the Building Needs Committee and the Planning Committees's activities. Also presented were recommendations for changing the lunch charge program. In action, the Board: * Set the date of the Records Commission Meeting on May 27, 2003, at 5:30 p.m. in the high school media center. * Employed several certified and classified substitutes. * Recognized the following individuals and teams for their achievements: 2002-03 Winter Sports Awards BASKETBALL Girls SOC Southeast District 14 Boys SOC Southeast District 14 * Accepted the Junior High(Middle School) Cheerleader Constitution. * Adjusted the 2002-2003 school calender to reflect the change in law concerning make-up days. * Approved the Contract Amendment of Tanner and Stone Architects for additional building program funded projects. * Recognized several out-of-state field trips. * Recognized the following volunteers, for academic and athletic activities: 2003-03 Classroom Volunteers Athletic Volunteers Football Soccer Cross Country Golf * Accepted the Athletic Handbook - Parent/Student and Coaches Athletic Handbook for Grades 7-12. * Continues employment of Raymond Wheeler, Jr. as Assistant Maintenance Supervisor on a two year contract. * Approved early dismissal for seniors. The seniors last day will be Tuesday, May 27, 2003. * Employed certified staff with limited contracts, set salary for cerified staff and employed the following certified staff on continueing contracts: Amber Broermann Congratulation! * Accepted the resignation request for purposes of retirement of Karen Sue Fetter, High School English Teacher. Mrs. Fetters has been an integral part of the high school program, including teaching journalism and working with various student groups such as the Bible Club, Jr. Class and the Student Incentive Program. She has served Minford students for the past 26 years. She is wished the best in her retirement. * Accepted the resignation request for retirement purposes of Martha Potts, Primary School Teacher. Mrs. Potts has taught hundreds of our primary students with care and dedication for the past 28 years. She is wished the best in her retirement. * Non-renewed the supplemental contracts of non-certified staff. * Employed the following classified personnel for the 2003-2004 school year as follows: Name Postition Contract Cynthia Adkins Cook 2 year Congratulations! * Approved several supplemental contracts * Eliminated sever part-time classified positions. * Denied a request for a leave of absence. * Accepted a dontation from USEC for the Academically Advanced Program. * Accepted the milk product quote fo Myer's Dair for 2003-2004. * Accepted the bread product quote of Heiner's Bakery for 2003-2004. * Entered into agreement with Gilbane Construction Management Firm for temporary use of modular buildings. * Agreed to house the Scioto County Special Eductaion Cooperative Elementary multiple Handicapped and the Pre-school Handicapped programs for the 2003-2004 school year. * Authorized additional project bids and declared an emergency in order to complete the projects on time. A permanent stage with lighting and additional sound equipment for the gymnasium will be constructed. * Employed an aide for a handicapped student. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO: May 1 Karen Miller
