Highlights of the December 18, 2003 Regular Meeting of the Minford Local Board of Education
Sue Wheeler, outgoing member of the Minford Board of Education, was presented with a plaque of appreciation for her four years of service to the District. Debra Huff was honored with a Resolution of Recognition and Commendation for her achievement in passing all requirements for National Teacher Board Certification. Mrs. Huff was presented with a framed signed resolution.
Reports were presented by principals Tim Allen, Bob Shaffer and Kevin Lloyd. Amy O'Dell, Curriculum Supervisor, reported that Minford Fourth Grade Students scored the highest percentage of passageon the reading test in Scioto County having 63% passing the test in October which is an ending test for that grade. The Third Grade tied for the highest percentage of passage on their test. Meetings have been held discussing other changes that can be made to reach more students to achieve higher performance.
Glenn Franke, Assistant Superintendent, discussed the December Count of special needs students. Despite one of the highest counts, our students are performing well on the required tests.
Dennis Meade, Superintendent, outlined the program of work to be performed in preparing the football field for next season.

Accepted donations for the Jr. High Girls Basketball Team from Minford Telephone Company and Falcon One Internet. The donations are appreciated very much.

Approved resolutions for faculty and staff recognition expenditures, faculty and staff appreciation retirement expenditures, and other appreciation expenditures for faculty and staff.
Approved a change order to Allard Excavating regarding soil stabilization for the south parking lot.
Confirmed the increase in compensation for incoming board members for $80 to $125 per meeting. Such compensation has not been raised since 1287.
Passed the Resolution of Recognition and Commendation Presented to Deborah Huff for recieving National Teacher Board Certification as follows:
WHEREAS, the State of Ohio has designed the National Teacher Board Certification Program as an integral part of Ohio's efforts to improved instruction and,
WHEREAS, the State of Ohio has designated the National Teacher Board Certification Program as an elite educator's program providing support and supplemental incentive as a reward for such achievement and,
WHEREAS, the Governor's Commission on Successful Teaching has provided recommendations to the Ohio General Assembly to recognize the National Teacher Board Certification Program as equivalent to an advanced degree; and
WHEREAS, Deborah Huff, Minford Middle School Teacher, has achieved the passage of all National Teacher Board Certification Program's requirements and has been awarded Board Certification.
NOWQ THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Minford Local Board of Education, Administration, Faculty and Staff do hereby recognize this achievement of Deborah Huff and do commend her for her achievement this 18th day of December, 2003.
Authorized entering into a lease-purchase financing of certain athletic equipment as part of the National School Fitness Program. Such financing shall be reimbursed to Minford School District on a monthly basis resulting in no cost to the Board.
Approved an increase in hours worked to Technology Assistant, Ann Shirey to assist in installing new computers over the holiday break. Also employed Nathan Franke as a Technology Aide for the same purpose.
Employed Kathleen Sheridan as a Home Instruction Teacher.
Accepted a donation for the Minford Science Program from Dr. And Mrs. Thomas Khoury. The donation is appreciated very much.
The Organization Meeting will be held on January 8, 2004, at 6:00 p.m. in the high school media center. The next regular meeting will be hel on January 22, 2004, at 6:00 p.m. in the high school media center.
