Highligts of the July 22, 2004, Regular Meeting of the Minford Local Board fo Education

Discussion was held concerning having a graphic illustration of what a new football stadium would look like. Updates were given on the all-weather track/soccer field renovation and repair, hiring of personnel, Capital Conference Teacher Attendance and landscaping.

The Minford Board of Education, through Allen's Auctions, will conduct an auction of a three classroom modular building, at the site of the old Middle School at 5:00 p.m., September 7, 2004.

Bob Hayburn addressed the Board concerning electrical load problems in the teacher lounges of the new middle school section.

Charley Flaig, Director of Scioto County ABLE/GED program and Barb Nourse, Director of Family Literacy addressed the Board concerning their programs, Adult Ed, and Even Start, which will be housed in the modular buildings at the K-8 building. Discussion was held concerning adding the Head Start program to provide better access to pre-schoolers in the area.

Darren Jenkins, South Central Ohio Educational Service Center Superintendent visited the Board and discussed the employment of teachers.

Counselor and Incentive Program Coordinator, Debbie Allen and Middle School Assistant Principle, Dennis Evans presented covering the incentive program activities for grades 4-8.

Amy O'Dell informed the Board that our preliminary data from the Ohio Department of Education indicated that Minford Local School District would be declared "Effective" on the State Report Card.

 

Superintendent Meade related that our Top Ten Superintendent Club graduates would receive signed recognition certificates from Representative Todd Book and Speaker fo the House, Larry Householder. Also discussed was the planning for the upcoming Public Forum on Public Education Matters which will be held at Minford High School on September 29th from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The regional forum will cover Senate District 14.

Replacement computers for the second grade have been ordered. A long-term plan for computer replacement will be developed to guide the maintenance and improvement of our computers available to students and faculty.

In action the Board:

Employed several substitute teachers and classified personnel.

Continued membership in the Statewide Coalition for Equity and Adequacy in school funding.

Employed Lori Rolfe as the District Academically Advanced Teacher/Coordinator. Welcome, Lori!

Accepted the K-8 student handbooks and the high school student handbook for the 2004-2005 school year.

Employed Kim Evans as a teacher assigned to the third grade. Welcome Kim!

Employed Ashley Porter as a teacher assigned to the Kindergarten. Welcome Ashley!

Recognized the retirement of Sue Dingus as a high school cook. She is wished the best in her retirement.

Employed on a part-time, as-needed basis, Ann Shirey as a technology assistant.

Employed several supplemental positions and recognized volunteers.

Approved federal fund programs for the 2004-2005 school year.

Employed on a part-time, as-needed basis, Dianne McGraw, as a Handicapped Student Aide.

Adjusted the salary of Elaine McGraw to reflect a Masters +15. Congradulations Elaine!

Approved entering into an agreement to establish a Head Start program at Minford.

Approved retaining Tanner & Stone to do a rendering and graphic illustration of the proposed football stadium.

Changed the date of the August meeting to Tuesday, August 17, 2004, 6:00 p.m. in the high school media center.
