Highlights of the January 13, 2005, Organizational and the January 27, 2005, Regular Meetings of the Minford Local Board of Education

Organizational Meeting - January 13, 2005

Troy Huff was elected President and Anita McGinnis was elected Vice-President.

Anita McGinnis was appointed to continue as O.S.B.A. delegate and liaison representative.  John Jenkins was appointed as O.S.B.A. student achievement delegate and liaison.

Eleanor Karshner was re-employed as Treasurer.

Compensation was set for board members as per state statute.

Board meetings will be held on the third Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the Minford High School Media Center.

Eleanor Karshner, Treasurer, and Dennis Meade, Superintendent, were appointed as purchasing agents.

Glenn Franke was appointed as Civil Rights Coordinator/Compliance Officer.

Several Standing Authorizations were approved.

The Bond Server Fund was established.

The Annual FY 06 Budget was adopted.

Regular Meeting - January 27, 2005

Under Old Business, John Jenkins gave an update on the Sports Complex Committee's work.  Troy Huff reported on the Hiring Committee's latest draft of guildelines.  High School Principal, Bob Shaffer, discussed the work of the class officers council and the upcoming planning for Eighth Grad Orientation.  Treasurer, Eleanor Karshner, updated the Board of Prosecuting Attorney Mark Kuhn's plan for getting delinquent taxes.

Superintendent, Dennis Meade, discussed plans to convene the Policy Review Committee to consider revisions.

Anita McGinnis reported on the Ohio Blue Ribbon Task Force on School Funding's recommendations.  Superintendent Meade discussed having fiber connection for internet access upgrade and entering into contract with the Scioto County MRDD for student transportation and services.  New programs, Head Start and EvenStart should begin soon in the modular buildings on the K-8 building campus.

A request was made to meet in Executive Session for personnel reasons as well as considering the Treasurer's contract and evaluation.

In action the Board:"

Approved a request for a leave of absence for medical reasons.

Adjusted the salary of Brett Oakes High School Science Teacher to reflect a Masters Degree. Congratulations Brett!

Approved entering into contract for fiber connection with South Central Ohio Computer Association for Minford Schools' Computer Network to replace current T1 lines.

Assigned the proceeds from the Middle School Auction $180,436.70 to the Capital Improvement Account.

Accepted donations for the Minford Middle School Principal's Fun from corner Market, Gary Blackburn and David Hanzel, M.D. and for the Pre-School Class Computer Purchase, Elementary Principal's Fund, from Mary Beth Andrews, Marianne Osborne and Ann Shirey.  The donations are appreciated very much.

Approved entering into agreement with the Scioto County Board of Mental Retardation, Developmental Disorders for transportation and other services.

The next meeting will be February 17, 2005, at 6:00 p.m. in the High School Media Center.
