Highlights of the February 17, 2005, Regular Meetings of the Minford Local Board of Education

Treasurer, Eleanor Karshner, reported that the audit review report was received and there were no problems.

Karen Smith, Cooperative Unit Teacher, was present and thanked the Board and Ryan Stockham, Technology Supervisor, for working with the unit to purchase computers with donations that were received.

The Athletic Sports Complex Committee was present. Board Member and Committee Chair, John Jenkins, gave a report on the progress of the committee. Glenn Franke, Assistant Superintendent, shared pictures of other footbal stadium bleachers and press boxes.

Board Vice-President, Anita McGinnis, reported on the legislation that is pending in Ohio.

Board President, Troy Huff and Superintendent, Dennis Meade, reported a meeting held with PTO and PeeWee representatives and and Elementary Principal, Tim Allen. An agreement was reached to share in the cost of installing bleachers in the elementary gym.

Superintent Meade discussed the Open Enrollment guildelines, Faculty and Staff Appreciation week and the OSBA meeting on March 8. He also discussed the Statewide Coalition's support for the Flannery Amendment to the Constitution that woudl help correct the State's current school funding problems.

In action the Board:

Employed several substitute bus drivers and several supplemental positions.

Accepted donations to the Middle School Principal's Club from Dr. Tsuyushi Inoshita and the New Boston Fire Department. The donations are appreciated very much.

Approved out-of-state field trips for the Preschool Class to the Highland Museum in Ashland, KY and the Academically Advanced Class to Avampato Discovery Museum, Clay County WV.

Approved the Open Enrollment program and the Guildelines and Procedure Handbook for 1005-2006

Authorized the Treasurer to advertise for Fixed Bids on supplying bread and milk products for 2005-2006.

Declared the week of May 2-6, 2005 as Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week.

Accepted the resignation of Scott Caudill as custodian. Scott has joined the Marines. We wish him the best!

Authorized the construction of a softball/baseball building.

The next meeting will be March 17, 2005, at 6:00 p.m. in the Minford Middle School Media Center.
