PTO MEETING - JANUARY 3, 2007
The meeting was called to order by Mindy Martin. Also present were: Christine Goddard, Kristi Cordle, Tanya Thoroughman, Thanea Kelly, Connie Riddlebarger,
Kathy Howard, Amy O’Dell, Michelle Tackett, Amy Cox, Tara Byrd, Angie Brown,
Tim Allen,. Julie Shonklwiler, and Jill Yuhas.
The minutes of the December 6, 2006 meeting were read and approved.
The Treasurer report was given.
The President’s report was given with the following items being discussed:
Mindy said that she and Kathy had spent some time inputting data into the website
database and that will cause us to be able to generate reports from that data used.
Thanks go out to everyone who helped work on the labels to get them ready to
meet the deadline last month.
Committee Reports were given as follows:
Spirit Store: The committee has not been able to attend any basketball games yet, but
have a schedule and will be trying to attend some of those games soon and sell items.
COSI -Tanya said we need to decide right away on the programs for the September
COSI on Wheels event, the deadline for choosing is in February. It was decided that those member of the committee will choose.
Box Tops /Labels – We recently received a check for the Tyson labels in the amount of $125.52. The next deadline to submit box tops will be February 28. To generate interest in this deadline, a contest will be held for all classrooms with the top class in each building to receive a pizza party. The deadline for that contest will be 02/15. The new collection boxes for each classroom will be distributed soon.
AR Store – The committee will be shopping in the next few days for the upcoming AR Store dates of the 18th and 19th. Discussion was held about setting a minimum number of points required to be able to shop at the store. Amy will coordinate with the committee members to decide on this issue. It was also mentioned that the students, especially older ones are not encouraged to read and earn points.
Fundraising – The reward from Frankenmuth, the pencils, has not arrived yet.
Santa Store – The profits from the store this year were $2,068.59.
NEW BUSINESS –
Amy O’Dell commented on the fingerprinting required for all volunteers as newly mandated by the school board. She has the forms to be used when going to Scudder School to have that done.
Mindy said the PTO Today book, the guide for setting up 501C3 Status should be arriving soon.
Discussion was held on whether SOMC would be willing to help fund a LED sign for
School events and possibly let us erect it on the site of their Family Practice on the corner of Bond Road and SR 335. Kristi Cordle offered to contact someone at SOMC.
Tara Byrd commented on the Wish List of teachers for thing PTO might be able to do to help the teachers more. Some possible items included picnic tables, supplies for Mother’s Day crafts, money for games in classrooms, Digital cameras for each grade
level since there is only one camera being shared by the entire Elementary. Amy O’Dell
brought up that there is a need for calculators for JR High students to use to prepare for testing and to actually use when taking the tests. The calculators needed are TI-34 Scientific calculators and they cost $13.50 each. A total of 10 kits are needed at a cost of $1395. PTO will consider this and also contact USEC about the possibility of them donating to the cost.
The next meeting will be February 7th after school.
