Highlights of the March 18, 2004, Regular
Meetings of the Minford Local Board of Education

The Board Meeting was honored with a visit from the Eighth Grade Program, The Wax Museum. Several students presented their interpretations of a historical of famous figure. The advisor for the program, Belinda Jo Allen, was asked to consider bringing the students to the OSBA Achievement Fair this coming November. Students presenting were:

Jeni Spradlin as Jenny Lind
Allison Williams as Martha Washington

A discussion was held concerning the progress of the football field reconstruction. Elmer Mullins, Board consultant, reported on the project. Track repair proposals were discussed. Due to inadequate funds available for use, fund raisin will be needed to reach the goals set.

In action, the Board:

Employed Dennis Evans as an administrator.

Employed Amy O'Dell as Title One/Curriculum Supervisor.

Entered into agreement for auditing and GAAP services with Michael A. Balestra.

Recognized several sports volunteers.

Accepted the Amounts and Rates as declared by the Budget Commission.

Adopted the 2004-2005 School Calender.

Entered into an agreement with the American Red Cross for disaster relief operations support.

Several supplemental positions were filled.

Accepted donations for the Eighth Grade Principals Club from John Clark Oil Co., Inc., Portsmouth Block, Inc. Falcon 1 and Minford Telephone Company.

Entered into agreement with School Insurance Consultants LLC for insurance needs.

Agreed to participate in the services provided by PILASCO-Ross SERRC for special needs students for 2004-2005.

Granted an unpaid leave of absence to a teacher.

Employed Tracy Ridout as a Home Instruction Teacher.

Accepted the High School Cheerleader Constitution subject to review and revision.

The next regular Board meeting will be Thursday, April 22, 2004, 6:00 p.m. in the High School Media Center.
