History of
Minford High School
Upward Bound

Upward Bound started at Shawnee State University in 1992.  It is Upward Bound's 8th year on campus.

Upward Bound provides many services for high school students.  All Upward Bound projects provide instruction in math, laboratory science, composition, literature, and foreign language. The intensity of services is provided through the six week residential stay on the Shawnee State University campus in the summer.  Other services provided include:

  • academic, financial, or personal counseling
  • exposure to academic programs and cultural events
  • tutoring
  • information on post-secondary education opportunities
  • assistance in completing college entrance and financial aid applications
  • assistance in preparing for college entrance exams
  • test and college admission waivers
  • community service activities
Students must have completed the 8th grade, be between ages of 13-19 and have a need for academic support in order to pursue a program of post-secondary education.  All students must meet income guidelines OR be potential first generation college students (meaning neither parent they live with completed a 4-year college degree).
