Minford's Falcons will attempt to perform a feat this year never before accomplished in the Scioto County basketball League--winning a fourth consecutive county cage title. The cagers of Ed Hall have a rough road between them and another crown, but if they can pick up where they left off last year, they may do the job.
The biggest task for Coach Hall will be filling the positions of Lester Brafford, Dave Bower, Ray Conley and Jack Crum, all lost by graduation. Brafford was the county's leading scorer last season.
Only returnee from last season is Merritt Hayward, a forward who will be counted on for a lot of the Falcon scoring punch. Hayward will also captain the team.
the only other sure starter is Cliff Zempter, 6-3 center up from the reserves, who saw lots of action last year as understudy to Crum.
The other starting posts are wide open but the inside track is held by Junior Scott at forward, and Jim Gilbert and Fred Bennett at guards. Right behind Scott in the forward race is Hhoward Bender, while Ronnie Coriell and Danny Gilbert are making spirited bids for the guard positions.
Rounding out the varsity team is Dick Moore at center and Wendell Alexander at forward.
Jim Scott, first year baseball coach will also handle the reserve cagers and has selected the following boys for reserve duty:
Hal Burchett, Jim Skidmore, Ron Noel, and Lawrence Casebolt, juniors; Leonard Smith, David Williams, Sam Mullsin, and Bill Johnson, sophomores; Paul Marcum, Carl Eckhart, Paul Kuhn, Eddie Gilbert and Joe Bennett, freshman.
