Area Volleyballers Dig Out Start to 2000 Season
The Minford Lady Falcons volleyball head coach, Arnold King, started his first season in 1999 at Minford High School. The Falcons fell in district play with an 18-7 record and finished 3rd in the S.O.C. King's senior key returners in 2000 include: Amanda Porter, Randi Brown, Janis Coriell,and Joyce Patrick. Other new additions to the Falcons' Varsity team are five sophomores: Andrea King, Mandy Miller, Kayla Shonkwiler, Allison Bender, Lori Arthur and one freshman, Janelle McGinnis.

Minford Spikers Outlast Northwest for S.O.C.II Win
"It's almost
crazy how different a team can look from one game to the next in a volleyball
match. But even in a game-two loss, Minford
(2-1, 2-1) appeared relatively strong Tuesday evening, as the Falcons
disposed of visiting Northwest 15-8,13-15, and 15-9. While the Mohawks
(2-1, 2-1) took control in the second game, Minford
was dominate in the first and third outings. Leading the Falcons
were
Andrea King and Amanda Porter. King chipped in with a game-high 11
points, went 16-of-20 hitting and posted five kills. Porter was 18-of-19
hitting, with seven kills and eight blocks. The Falcons'
Janis Coriell, Mandi Miller, Kayla Shonkwiler and Randi Brown also put
up admirable numbers. While
Coriell posted nine points, Miller
went 13-of-14 hitting with five kills and four blocks. Shonkwiler
was 39-of-40 setting with eight assists, and Brown went 8-for-8 hitting
with a kill."
Waverly Outs Minford
Waverly Knocked
off visiting Minford 15-10,
15-11 Thursday night. The Tigers were led by Courtney Gullion, who
scored nine points, registered 12 digs and was 9-of-11 in serve-receiving.
Waverly's Rachael Percell added seven points and 10 assists. The
Tigers' Steffie Peters added 6 points and 5 kills.
Pacing Minford
was
Amanda Porter. She went 16-for-18, hitting with nine kills.
The Falcons'
Andrea King went 10-for-12, hitting with four kills. Minford's
Kayla
Shonkwiler scored six points, went 31-of-32 setting, and posted 11 assists.

Minford 15-15, West 7-9
Minford
knocked off visiting West 15-7, 15-9 Tuesday in an S.O.C. II victory.
The Falcons
(6-1,
5-1) received large contributions from Amanda Porter Mandi Miller, Andrea
King, Kayla Shonkwiler and Joyce Patrick.
Porter went 12-of-14 hitting with
10 kills, while Miller was 14-of-14 hitting with two kills and eleven blocks.
Andrea King went 15-of-16 hitting
with six kills, as Shonkwiler served up seven points and went 31-of-32
setting.
Patrick paced the Falcons
with
eight points.

Wheelersburg 7-15-15, Minford 15-11-7
The Pirates moved into a three-way
tie with Minford
and Northwest for second place in the S.O.C. II with a hard-fought win
over the Falcons
Thursday.
Wheelersburg was paced by Jessie
Seeley with 13 points. Seeley at one point of the third game served
11 straight points to help the Pirates take the win,
Brooke Emnett also added seven
points as Danielle Thomas was 59-for-62 setting and collected eight assists.
Ashley Clevenger and Ashley Bauman
let the Pirates' defense.
Andrea King led the Falcons
with 11 points as Mandy Miller scores nine points on 19-for-23 hitting
and Amanda Porter 18-for-21 hitting 11 kills.
Kayla Shonkwiler led Minford
with 36-for-37 setting and 12 assists as well.
Wheelersburg won th JV match 15-0,
15-9.
Wheelersburg visits Unioto for
a tri-match Saturday with Greenfiels McClain. Minford hosts Oak Hill
Tuesday.

Minford Spikers win Jackson Tournament
The Minford
varsity volleyball varsity team traveled to play in the Jackson County
Apple Festival Volleyball Tournament and came away first place.
Minford
defeated Racine Southern 15-0, 15-1 in the opener as Kayla Shonkwiler scored
eight points on 27-of-28 setting and 12 assists.
Allison Bender and Randi Brown
each scored six points as Amanda Porter swatted five kills and Andrea King
seven.
In the Championship, Minford
outlasted hosting Jackson 15-6, 13-15,15-13.
King led the way with 11 points
and eight aces. She also collected three kills on13-of-15 hitting
and seven digs.
Janelle McGinnis added nine poins
as Mandy Miller scored five kills, and Porter six kills.
Janis Coriell and Kayla Shonkwiler
combined to go 51-of-59 setting with 19 assists.

Wheelersburg Spikers Outlast Minford
The Pirates were
led by Amy Conn's 16 points, 10-of-12 spiking, five kills and seven digs
in the 15-9, 16-14 victory over the Falcons
Tuesday.
Wheelersburg
also got six points, 8-of-9 spiking, three kills and five blocks from sophomore,
Brooke Emnett, while Ashley Clevenger added 15-of-18 spiking, nine kills
and six digs.
Danielle Thomas scored 13 assists
as well.
The Pirates won the JV match 15-4,
15-9.
The Pirates host Northwest Thursday.
