Minford Middle School
Weather Station!
The new MMS Weather Station is up and running!

Dr. Tracy Alley, TAG teacher at MMS, was instrumental in bringing the weather station to MMS!  Dr. Alley wrote a grant entitled, "Challenger Weather Station," to honor teacher/astronaut Christa McAuliffe.  The Ohio Department of Education awarded Dr. Alley $11,000 to build a school weather station and supply teachers with weather-related teaching materials such as books, videos, teaching kits, and more.

In the spring of 2001, Dr. Alley was named a Christa McAuliffe Teacher Fellow along with two other Ohio teachers.

The weather net system is connected to 5,500 schools around the world.  Students in the Minford Local School District can now view the school temps from the 5,500 world schools, and those world schools can view the temps at MMS.  Dr. Alley is working on connecting with two television weather news channels so that they can link to the MMS weather station on the morning and nightly news.  News Channel 4 in Columbus, Ohio, has agreed to help with the project.  News Channel 13 in Huntington, West Virginia, has expressed an interest in the project as well.

Mr. Ryan Stockham worked on the computer programming side of installing the weather station.  Mr. Chris Downey assembled the many pieces of hardware required to install the weather station.

The Minford Local School District is VERY fortunate to have this new equipment!  Thanks Dr. Alley, Mr. Stockham, and Mr. Downey!
