GRADS
What is GRADS?
GRADS is a voluntary, in school instructional program for pregnant
and parenting teens funded by the State Department of Education.
The goals of GRADS:

to encourage students to remain
in school until graduation

to assist the student and their
child with positive health care
-
to help students learn positive
parenting skills
-
to provide information about working
and post secondary education
-
to encourage students to set goals
for themselves and their child future.
Expectations of GRADS students
-
Attend GRADS classes
-
Participate in individual conferences
to identify problems and/or concerns in personal, home or school life.

attend Seminar Days and/or Prenatal
Clinics held at SOMC.
Evidence of Effectiveness
Pregnant
and parenting teens enrolled in the GRADS program are more likely
to remain in school during pregnancy and after childbirth; are more likely
to obtain early prenatal care; are less likely to deliver low birth weight
babies; are likely to increase their knowledge of positive parenting practices;
and are less likely to have a subsequent pregnancy while still in school.
