Robert Wesley "Bob" Bowen, 70 of Versailles, formerly of Huntington, W. Va., husband of Cynthia Sue Linet Bowen, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.
Mr. Bowen was a native of New Boston, Ohio, a son of the late Russell and Elizabeth Aldridge Bowen. He graduated from Minford, Ohio, High School in 1949 and was a staff sergeant in the U. S. Air Force from 1949 until 1952. He was a Methodist.
Mr. Bowen began his career as a disc jockey at WTNS, Coshocton, Ohio, in 1956. He moved to Huntington in 1958 as a WSAZ Radio announcer. He became sports director at WSAZ-TV in 1967 and remained there until his retirement in 1990.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Lee Klek, Rocky River, Ohio; Lauren Lee Bowen, Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Linda Lee Paluch, Dublin, Ohio; a sister, Carol Lee Haney, Wheelersburg, Ohio; and eight grandchildren, Maria and Nikolas Klek, Emma, Clare and Benjamin Snape, and Jaclyn, Trevor, and Cole Paluch. A son, Kevin Russell Bowen, and a brother, James "Stormy" Bowen, are deceased.
Services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, by the Rev. Ron Brooks and Jerry Sander. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Huntington.
