For the fourth time in as many days, a private plane has crashed in Ohio. And for the fourth time, both occupants have been killed.
The latest crash happened Monday at Minford, about 20 miles from here. Warren Newsome, 30, of Rt. 1 Wheelersburg, Ohio, the pilot, and Lawrence Slack, also 30, of Rt. 1, South Webster, were killed. The two took off from Scioto County Airport near Minford, then attempted to land the single-engine Ercoupe at Knore Brothers Airport, a quarter-mile away.
The pilot apparently misjudged the landing distance, attempted to pull up and hit a tree and power lines. The plane fell upside down in a field and burned. Power service in the area was disrupted for several hours.
