Betty J. Wiseman Brown, 80, of State Route 335, Lucasville, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, in the emergency room at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
Born March 15, 1923, in Gallia County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Ernest and Alice Clyse Wiseman, she was a school teacher in the Minford Local Schools, retiring in 1973.
She was a member of Minford United Methodist Church, where she served as choir director, organist, pianist, Sunday School teacher and V.B.S. Director. She and her husband were co-directors of the Hopewell House.
She was a graduate of Rio Grande High School in the class of 1940 and a raduate of Rio Grande College.
She taught piano lessons in her home.
She is survived by her husband, Ivan Elwood Brown, whom she married on Aug. 15, 1954; three sons, jack and Gwen Langdon of Lancaster, Joseph and Terry Brown of Lucasville, and John and Barbara Brown of Lucasville; two daughters, Sandra Langdon Hardesty of Gallipolis, and Ruth Ellen and Neal Skiles of Heath; 12 grand children; 15 great-grand children; one brother, John Wiseman of Point Pleasant; one sister, Hope Davisson of Richmond Dale; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Rex Lee Brown and James Michael Langdon; two brothers, Merrill Wiseman and Harold Wisemn; and one sister, Rosena Rees.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at Minford United Methodist Church, with Pastor Tim Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Brown Family Cemetery. Friends may call at Minford United Methodist Church from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday.
