Carl L. Dever, Sr., 67, of Central Avenue, Wheelersburg, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Southern Ohio Medical Center-Scioto. Born Aug. 16, 1936, in Scioto County, a son of the late Charles O. and Gladys L. Shoemaker Dever, he was a lifetime resident of Scioto County. He retired in 1994 from the oven department at the former New Boston Coke in New Boston, and had worked for the former Empire-Detriot Steel Corporation. He was a committeeman and member of the United Steel Workers Local 2116 and a member of the Carpenters Local 437 in Portsmouth. A graduate of Minford High School in the class of 1953, he was a member of Sciotoville Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Boggs Dever, whom he married on Aug. 1, 1954, in Greenup, Ky.; four sons, Carl L. Dever, Jr., and his wife kim of Lucasville, Bradley Dever of New Boston, Glenn Charles Dever and his wife, Melinda of Wheelersburg; one daughter, Sherri Hale of New Boston; nine grand children; and two great-grand children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobert Dever; and one grandson, Kyle Charles Dever. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Art Marcum, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens at Franklin Furnace. Friends may call the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday,and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
