Cora Roseland Witten

Cora Roseland Witten, 72, of Minford, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. She was born Oct. 18, 1931, in Franklin Furnace, Scioto County, a daughter of Cora Ethel Payton McWharter of Wheelersburg and the late Orville Morton McWharter.
She was the former activities aide at Hempstead Manor in Portsmouth and was a private home care provider. She was a member of Long Run Free Will Baptist Church in Clarktown.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Fred E. "Bill" Witten, whom she married Nov. 25, 1963; two daughters, Crystal Pennington of Minford and Nicole Pennington of Wheelersburg; two sons, Mike Pennington of South Webster and Anthony Pennington of Minford; four grandchildren, Josh, Ricky, Christina, and Leanne; four great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Kelsi, Kaylee, and Maverick; one brother, Orville McWharter of Wheelersburg; six sisters, Shirley Roof of Lithopolis, Mildred Moore of Florida, Sharon Shaw of Lancaster, Sandra Walker of Wheelersburg, Patricia Deerfield of Franklin Furnace and Rita Carpenter of Lucasville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one son, Richard Pennington; one daughter, Andrea Rhines; and one brother, the Rev. Charles McWharter.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Long Run Free Will Baptist Church in Clarktown with Pastor John King and Brother Harold Harness officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Friends may call at the Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church
