Dallas Purtee

Dallas E. Purtee, Sr., 81, of Taylor Hill Road, Minford, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Best Car Convalescent Center in Wheelersburg.

Born July 28, 1922, in Scioto County, a son of the late Phillip Sherman and Florida Ferguson Purtee, he was a farmer and a school bus driver for Minford Local Schools.  He was a World War II Army veteran, member of James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion and attended Harrison Mills Church of Christ in Christian Union.

He is survived by three sons, Donald and Mary Holland of Minford, Phillip and Linda Purtee of Wheelersburg, Dallas Purtee, Jr., and Teresa of West Union; three daughters, June and Jim Darby of Charleston, S.C., Opal Bazler of Wheelersburg, Vanessa and Bradley Souders of Lucasville; one brother, Roger Purtee of Hot Springs, Ark.; one sister, Esta Owens of New Boston; 17 grandchildren, James (Branda) Holland, Marcia (Phillip) Fuller, Deana (Steve) Martin, Tessa (Kevin) Kossick, Robbie Purtee, Amber Purtee, Scotty Copas, Dustin (Christie) Souders, Chad Maynard, Dana Souders, Allison Ford, Jodi (Michael) Finger, Larry (Beverly) Bazler, Nathan (Sara Beth) Bazler, Jason (Tina) Slusher, Brian Slusher; and 11 great-grandchildren, Paige Bazler, Kevin Holland, Kendra Ford, Kayla Darby, Bryanna Souders, Natalie Fowler, Storm France, Ashton Wilbur, Carter Bechwith, Kristin Martin and Kelli Martin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth C. Wiley Purtee on March 14, 1998, whom he married on April 27, 1946, in Greenup, Ky.; one sister, Thelma Pence; and four brothers, Willard Purtee, Denver Purtee, and two in infancy.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford, with Rev. John Jenkins officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.  Military graveside rites will be conducted by the James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion.
