Edith Powell

Edith F. Powell, 83, of Minford, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at her residence.

Born July 16, 1921, in Maysville, Ky., a daughter of the late Charles Allen and Stella (Williams) Fisher, she was a graduate of Minford High School in the class of 1939 and a member of Minford Church of the Nazarene. She was a homemaker and was a sales clerk for Kresge's for several years and had worked at Marting's Piecegoods Shop.

She is survived by one son, Kenneth L. Powell of Portsmouth; four daughters and sons-in-law, Karin and David Shumway of Lyndhurst, Anita and Don Pfleger of Beckley, W. Va., Sandra and Wayne Hickman of Minford, Cheryl and Michael Shope of Minford; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren; and two sisters Evelyn (Sam) Bennett of Minford, Avanelle (Harlan) Willis of Wasilla, Alaska.

In addiction to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Powell, on Dec 27, 2000, whom she married on April 26, 1941; one sister, Connie Colley; and three brothers, Charles Fisher, Harold Fisher and one in infancy.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 23, 2005, at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home with Pastor Don Pfleger officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery near Minford. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.
