Esta J. Allen, 75, of Minford, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Heartland of Portsmouth.

Born Sept. 8, 1929, in Scioto County, a son of the late Esta O. and Minnie Dale Crabtree Allen, he was a retired captain for SOCF in Lucasville with 33 years of service and had worked at Ohio Penitentiary in Columbus from 1960 to 1972. He was a graduate of Minford High School, an honarary lifetime member of the Ohio Valley Firefighters Association and a member of Woodsmen of America. He was active in Minford Little League for many years where he served as president for three years and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was an Army veteran, having served with the 503 Engineer Light Equipment Company in Europe, and attended Minford United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife Carol Meenach Allen who he married Nov. 16, 1991; two sons, Ronald Curtis Allen of Chillicothe and Todd Wesley (Roxane) Allen of Winesburg, Ohio; a granddaughter, Alicia Holt; a grandson, Braden Allen; a stepson, Tony (Sandra) Oberley, Justin and Jessica Brwon; and one brother, Homer E. (Fay) Allen of Minford.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosena E. Hornikel Allen on Oct. 6, 1978; one son, Kevin Daryl Allen; one daughter, Carrie Beth Holt; and one brother, Laman L. Allen.

Funeral services well be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Tim Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Military graveside rights will be conducted by the James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion.
