Gerald William Knore

Gerald W. "Jerry" Knore, 95, of Minford, died Sunday, Oct 5, 2003, at Heartland of Portsmouth.

Born Aug. 30, 1908, in Harrison Township, Scioto County, a son of the late William and Ida Frownie Knore, he was lifetime resident of Scioto County.

He was a retired eletrician and a member of the I.B.E.W. Local #575 for over 50 years and was an aircraft mechanic and pilot.

He and his brother Eugene owned and operated Knore Brothers Aircraft Service in Minford for many years.
On Aug. 11, 1939, Jerry was the first man to land an aircraft in Scioto County.

He and his brother also helped establish the first vocational program at Portsmouth High School were they taught aviation for five years.

Jerry was the oldest member of the Minford Nethodist Church, where he had served as Sunday School superintendent, teacher
and a delegate to the annual church conference for many years. He graduated from Minford High School in the class of 1927.

He is survived by his wife 68 years, Helen Boyer Knore, whom he married Feb 17, 1935; three daughters, JoAnn (Howard)
Preston of Cincinnati, Sondra (Donald) Waard of Minford, Sharon (Jim) Bryant-Jones of Hilliard; two sons, Gordon (Diana)
Knore of Minford and Steven (Susan) Knore of Minford; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and
nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Lucile Knore; a brother, Eugene Knore; and a grandson, Eric
Steven Ward.

Services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Minford Untied Methodist Church with Pastor Tim Bennett officiating. Burial in Memorial Burial
Park. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford and 10 to 11 a.m.
Thursday at church.
