Mrs. June Laack

June Laack, 71, passed away at Southern Ohio Medical Center on Saturday evening, June 12, 2004, after an extended illness.
She was born June 26, 1932, in Sciotoville, Ohio, to the late Arthur W. Dawson and Sarah Elizabeth (Stockham) Dawson. She graduated in 1950 from Minford High School. In 1953, she graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, and, later, she attended Shawnee State Community College. She and her husband opend a floral shop, known as Colonial Florist, in Sciotoville in 1969. In 1971, she retired from nursing to dedicate all her time to work with her husband in co-ownership at Colonial Florist, where she was active in store business until her retirement in 2002 because of her illness.
She was president of the Portsmouth City School Board for 20 years and a member of the board at Scioto County Joint Vocational School, the League of Women Voters, Mercy Guild, Teachers Retirement Association, Mercy Alumni and Evangelical United Church of Christ.
On Nov. 8, 1952, in St. Charles Minn., she was married to Carl R. Laack, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Richard Laack of Sciotoville and Kevin Laack of Greenup, Ky.; two grandchildren, James Laack of Sciotoville and Sarah Laack of South Shore, Ky.; three brothers, Donald of Virgina Beach, Va., David and wife, Patty of Florida and Robert and wife, Carolyn, of Sciotoville; a special aunt, Marguerite Canter of Minford; Judy Nineer, Kristi Lewis and Regina Weddington; and a special employee, Wanda Lore, who has been with the Laacks since the store opened.
Friends may call at Don Wolfe Funeral Home in Sciotoville from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004. Private funeral services will be at the eonveniences of the family with the Rev. Mark Bales officiating and burial in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg.
