Lewis A. Shoemaker, 99, of Minford, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth.

Born Dec. 4, 1904, in Minford, a son of the late John William and Clara Hickman Shoemaker, he was a welder for 45 years and operated Minford Garage for 10 years in the 1940s.  He was a member of the Fairview Missionary Baptist Church and a charter member of the former Madison Grange.  He taught welding and blueprint at Patterson Field, Dayton and Kellogg Field, Battle Creek, Mich., during WWII.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Clyde McMillin of Chandler, Ariz.; a daughter-in-law, Ann Shoemaker of Kentucky; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Fayita Warren Shoemaker, on Nov. 29, 1982, whom he married on Nov. 16, 1927; one son, Lyle Shoemaker; one sister, Emma Knore; and two brothers, Harry and Russell Shoemaker.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at Fairview Missionary Baptist Church with Pastors Ralph Frazie and Tim Palla officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Friends may call at the Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford from 6 to p.m. Tuesday and at the church one hour before the service on Wednesday.
