Editor Times:--"The melancholy days have come, the saddest of the year," yet we hope that that will not deprive us of the privilege of contributing our mite to the Times. The funeral of Miss Sarah Jones, recently deceased, was preached at Porter Church, on Sunday the 29th, by Rev. Buzzie; also preached at Batterson's school house the same evening by the same. Quite an excitement prevailed throughout the county, at the announcement of Wm. Titus' death, and numerous reports have been circulated At last accounts young Monroe had not been heard from.

A singing school has been organized at Price's school house, by Thomas Marshall. Lessons given on Thursdays and Sundays. Several law suits have been before Esquire Titus during the past week. We did not learn the results. Messrs. Robert and Edward Stockham returned from Pennsylvania on Wednesday last, where they have resided for some time.

Miss Edith Taylor, of Clay, has been visiting in this locality during the past week. D. W. Rigrish, of Portsmouth, is visiting Aunt Ida. He is greatly attached to his relatives. "Ida Hoe" is happy to inform "Nemo" that she has not taken her departure. We much rather prefer the climate of Scioto county, than to be in terror of G. Hoppers and Sioux.
