Article taken from The Portsmouth Times, December 8, 1894

Sheriff Elect James Rickey has appointed a well known young Republican from Aladison township, named David Bennett, as his deputy.  Mr. Bennett is by profession a school teacher, and has charge of a school in Rush township. He has the reputation of being a very clever young man and the appointment is generally commended by the people.  Mr. Bennett will be about the sheriff's office from now until Sheriff Grastin's term expires to familiarize himself with the workings of the office.
