E.L. Davis is victim; Car Stopped in middle of Road

E.L. Davis 35, who resides on Auburn avenue, Sciotoville, was held up by two masked men near Minford at 8 o'clock Tuesday night and was robbed of $137, according to a report he made last night to Sheriff Maurice Caldwell. The daring robbery took place at the C & O bridge near Minford.

Davis says that when he reached that spot, two armed men stepped into the middle of the road and signaled him to stop his truck. When he did so, one of the men pointed a gun at his head and the other relieved him of his pocket book, which contained $137. Davis says the two men then disappeared towards the bridge. He says they wore handkerchiefs across their faces and he had no chance to get a good description of them. He says they were of the average size and were roughly dressed.

Davis travels for the Raleigh Products Company of Freeport, and he was in his truck making deliveries in the Minford neighborhood. He says he believes that the highwaymen were aware of the fact that he visits that community often and that he has been in the habit of carring goodly-sized sums of money on his person, as he delivers and collects for his firm.
