Cassius Edmunds

Cassius Edmunds was born Sept. 25, 1848 in Cuyahoga Co. Ohio. At age fifteen, he moved to Scioto County where he began making and selling brooms. At one time he made his living as a dealer in general merchandise at Scioto Mills, Harrison Township. In 1868, he married Nancy J. Stewart. they had three children: William, Emma, and Elnora who died at the age of three years. When the first Mrs. Edmunds died in 1872, Mr. Demunds married Susan shaffer of Portsmouth. They had three children: Stephen, Sarah, and Urania. Mr. Edmunds served with the First Ohio Battery Light Artillery during the Civil War. He was in the battles of Winchester, Port Republic, Second Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville where he lost his right leg.
