Charles J. Peach

Charles J. Peach was born October 21, 1838, in Monteliard, France. His father was Charles Peach Sr. The name is French is pronounved Pash. His mother was Geneive Surmann. His parents left France in 1849. They lived for a while in New Orleans before moving to Cincinnati where Mrs. Peach's father was living. His name was Peter Surmann.

Charles Jr. moved to Harrison Township prior to the Civil War. He could speak and read French fluently but never mastered the reading of English. Little is known about him except that he served in the Company F of the 91st OVI. He was captured at Red House Shoals on the Kanawa River in 1863. He recieved a gunshot wound in his left eye at Stephenson Depot on July 20, 1864.

Charles Peach Jr. married Lovine Hopkins in 1861. They had nine children: Charles F., James, John W. Sarah, Alexander, Jacob, Emma George, Mary Jane, and Charles. He married [2] in 1885 to Elizabeth Garey. Their children were: Myrtie, Annie, Bertha, Josephine, Ellen, Eliza, Charles, Jesse, and Geneive.

Peach died April 17, 1920. He is buried in the St. John's [Lily] Cemetery in Harrison Township. He is buried beside a Geneva Peach who was born in 1817.
