Elias Coriell
Elias Coriell was born in 1781, the last son born to Abraham Coriell and Esther Heath Coriell. His father was a soldier of the Revolution from New Jersey. In 1818, the Elias and Lucretia Covert Coriell family began their migration to Ohio. Coming down the Allegheny, their two year old daughter drowned when their boat sank. When the family reached Portsmouth, they moved into a house on Front Street. It was here that their youngest child, Abraham, was born. In the spring of 1819, the family moved to the area of Harrison Township where they bout land to farm and raise their family. Known children of Elias and Lucretia Coriell: Isaac, 1802-1856; Sela, 1803-1887, married Mary Welch; Daniel, 1806-1875; Eliza; Peter, 1810-1882; Ira, 1811-1899, married Serena White; Fannie; daughter who drowned in 1818; Abraham [only child born in Ohio], 1818-1903. It was in Ohio that the Coriell named first changed in spelling from Coryell.
