Henry Lantz, Captain
Henry Lantz, Captain - was born in McArthur, Ohio, Feb. 22, 1831. His parents were Aaron Lantz and Leah Claypool. Henry married Lavina H. Bennett in front of the fireplace at her family's home on the hillside just west of Bennett Mills, and they resided in Harrisonville after 1873. Lavina was born Sept. 27, 1833 to Joesph and Elizabeth [Mills] Bennett, New York natives who also resided in Harrisonville.
To this union were born the following children: William who drowned at age nine in the Little Scioto River, Jessie, Lizzie, and Henry C. all of whom died in infancy, Mary [Mollie], Frank B., and Thomas C.
Henry was a cabinet maker and a Millwright. He came from McArthur, Ohio to rebuild the Bennett Mills on the Little Scioto, two miles south of Harrisonville on the Sciotoville Pike. He served in the Civil War in Company G, Twenty-second Ohio Infantry and was First Duty Sergeant of his company. He helped to organize Company F, Fifty-sixth Ohio Infantry, of which he was commissioned as a First Lieutenant. He was taken as a prisoner by the Confederates in Mississippi but was exchanged after a three month period.
