Jacob Arthur Eckhart
Jacob Arthur Eckhart was one of fourteen children born to Jacob Eckhart Sr. and Mary Scherer. He was born in Jackson Co. OH, and he moved with his family to Madison Township when he was three. Jacob Jr. was a Civil War veteran, having served with Company K, 91st OVI. He was wounded twice: on May 9, 1864, at the battle of Cloyd's Mountain, VA, when a gun discharged so close to him that he lost the hearing in his right ear, and again on July 20, 1864, at Stevenson's Depot when he was shot in the right hip. The second injury made him unfit for further service. he was discharged May 6, 1865. Mr. Eckhart married Jemima Busler from Jackson Co. He made his living by farming in Madison Township until 1900 when he moved to Harrisonville to serve as postmaster at Scioto Post Office. Mr. & Mrs. Eckhart had the following children: Daniel who died at age fourteen, George Washington who died at eighteen, Margaret Ellen who married Dr. S.W. Rickey, John Franklin, Minnie who married Warren Coriell, Sampson Douglas, Andrew Jackson, and Bertha who married Russell Frowine.
