John Allen Colegrove

 

John Allen Colegrove was born July 21, 1842 in Harrision Township to Peleg colegrove and Susan A. Bennett. His grandfathers were William Colegrove and Thomas Bennett. John A. took his physical appearance from the Colegrove side of the family. He had a commanding appearance that one might call handsome. He was above average in height with blue eyes and dark hair. He was also a good citizen. During the Civil War he served in Company E, 33rd OVI. In 1870, he married Josephine Sweet, daughter of Samuel and Catherine Sweet. To them were born the following children: Ida Florence who married John Erwin, Alva E. who married Flora Call, Walter, William, and Elmer.
