Samuel Monroe

Samuel Monroe was born in Harrisonville, OH, February 21, 1841, to Aaron Monroe and Sarah Marshall. He was the gr-grandson of Samuel Marshall Sr. a Revolutionary War soldier. Mr. Monroe made his living by doing contracting work. He helped build the Portsmouth and Harrisonville Turnpike, and the bridges at Turkey and Bear Creeks.

Monroe married in 1860 to Mary J. Dever of Harrison Township. Mary's father was Michael Dever. They had the following children: Laura, John R., Emma, David, Sarah, Clara May, Fannie, Gilbert, Kendall and Dessie.

Monroe served as a private in the 140th OVI during the Civil and was mustered out in 1864.
