The Coriell Family

The Coriell Family was originally from France. They are believed to have been French Huguenots who were Protestants and were persecuted when King Louis XVI came to the throne and revoked the Edict of Nantes which gave them religious freedom. The Coriell families in Scioto County are descendants of these French Huguenots who immigrated to the United States in the late 1600s. The generations between the first immigrant tand the Scioto County Coriells need to be mentioned. Coriells owned the ferry which George Washington used to crow the Delaware River to escape the British. Another Coriell was a soldier in George Washington's Army and was drafted to help carry the body of Washington at his funeral..
