Thomas Bennett

Thomas Bennett was born in 1856 in Harrisonville to Nimrod J Bennett and Nancy Crull. Thomas married Anna M. Samson, daughter of James Samson and Elizabeth Wood. To this union was born one child, Stella May in 1894.

Thomas' ancestors were of the first Bennetts to settle the Minford area on a farm that is located between Route 139 and Route 335 on Bennett Road. This farm has remained in the hands of Bennett heirs since that time. The house is still standing and looks much like it did when Stella Bennett lived in it before her marriage to John Ellsworth Kallner in 1913. Today, the Hayward family resides in the home: Jeff, Teresa [Gampp], Ashley, Melinda, and Melissa.

Thomas Bennett was active in the Methodist Church and served as superintendent. He was also a justice of the peace and married many Harrisonville couples. After a period of time he started the Bennett Cemetery which was part of the original farm land. When Thomas died he left his farm land to his only grandson, Thomas Lowell Kallner.
