William H. Marting

 

William H. Marting was a native of Germany. He was born August 29, 1828, and came to America, landing in Baltimore, MD when he was seventeen years old. He worked as a grocery clerk in Pittsburg, PA before moving to Scioto County where he bought a 225 acre farm in Harrison Township. In 1849, Mr. Marting married Catharine Ketter, also a native of Germany. They had six children: William Jr., Mary, Charles, Caroline, Lewis, and Lizzie. Mr. & Mrs. Marting were members of the Methodist faith.

In 1873, Mr. Marting bought the store of John Gebhard in Bloom township and earned his living as both a farmer and a merchant.
