1982 - 1983
Some Classrooms Condemned

The new high school building that held so much promise in 1970 began crumbling around us.

Shortly after the building was finished in 1970, the first sign of structural problems began to appear on the first floor.  The first floor hallway began to move.  Soon after, there appeared--and still remains--a hump in the floor.  It extends the length of the hallway.

When the 1982 - 1983 school year began, teachers and students were informed that some rooms in the building had to be condemned.  This meant relocating students, teachers, and equipment to any available safe space.  Mrs. Scott and Mr. Berry held classes in the Minford Primary reading lab.  Sewing and typing classes were held without sewing machines and typewriters.  Mr. Merrill's classes were moved into a large closet without windows or ventilation.

The building construction lasted throughout Thanksgiving break.
