Another fatality was added today to the Ohio VAlley flood death toll.
Wells Kirkendall, 10, a good swimmer but hampered by heavy boots, was drowned when he fell off a bridge over Duck Run into flood backwaters. He was Scioto's first victim of the current flood.
The Ohio river was rising slowly today, with the stage at 52 feet, while the swollen Scioto was receding. Portsmouth's five pumping stations were working, as sewer valves were closed because of the flood stage.
A ferry is being used across the Scioto river backwater to open traffic to Cincinnati. All Columbus traffic is being routed by way of Jackson. The roads are not open to Oak Hill and Ironton.
