Lumpkin Punches New York Coach

A report from Portsmouth, O., where the Spartans played Chris Cagle and his New York Giants last Wednesday night says that "Father" Lumpkin, backfield star for the Star for the Spartans, besides leading his team to victory over the former all-America Army star and his mates, scored a knockout on the field, adding a little fistic touch to the gridiron affair, which was played under lights. It seems that Lumpkin, in blocking a New York Giant player, hit the player so hard that he knocked him for quite a distance. The report says that the New York Giants' coach jumped up off the bench where he was sitting and "complimented" Lumpkin for the act in uncalled for words. "Papa" Lumpkin didn't like the tone the Giants' coach was using so turned loose with a terrific right, which sent the coach down for a count. He was carried from the field, regaining his bearings after several cold towels in the dressing room.
