First Football Game is Won by Portsmouth Team

Portsmouth, O, Sept 14 - Off to a fast start with a dazzling passing attack, the Portsmouth Spartans today had beaten the Brooklyn Dodgers, 14 to 0, in their first 1931 game in the national professional league.

Taking advantage of a penalty from Brooklyn's 35-yard line, Portsmouth scored in the second quarter. Schwartz scored after a series of plunges and Dutch Clark drop-kicked for the extra point. Emerson blocked a Brooklyn punt and Loule Long seized the ball across the goal line for the second score. Clark again drop-kicked the point.

Nine out of 14 passes attempted by the Spartans proved successful.
