Spartans Team Has Star in Indian Back

Portsmouth, O., Sept. 5,- "The greatest Indian since Thorpe." That's what Coach George "Potsy" Clark thinks of Mayes McCladn, one time Haskell and Iowa fullback who is out to win championship honors for the Portsmouth Spartans this season in the national pro league.

Potsy is ready to give a big hand to almost any member of his squad of 25 but he displays a rare type of enthusiasm when McClain's name is mentioned. "The whole outfit looks good to me," he said after this afternoon's workout. Why I knew that boy when Dick Hanley had him at Haskell and Dick showed him plenty of tricks. He wasn't really well that year at Iowa when Bert Ingwersen had him but no slouch at that when you consider pink shape now and if he isn't the greatest fullback of 1931 you can call me names."
