Portsmouth To Hold Initial Night Pro Football Contest

The first night professional football game ever played in this country, is slated for Wednesday night at the Portsmouth universal stadium, Portsmouth, Ohio, when the Portsmouth Spartans tangle with the Brooklyn Dodgers of Brooklyn, N.Y.

This will be the second National league contest for both teams. The Spartans having defeated the Newark, N.J. team the season opener by a score of 13 to 6.

The Spartan-Brooklyn game has been designated "Governor Day" by the Spartan management and the Portsmouth chamber of commerce.

Governor Myers Y. Cooper of Ohio has signified his willingness to attend if previous arrangements can be postponed.

Governor Cooper, if he can attend, will have as his guests, Governor Flem L. Sampson of Kentucky and Governor William G. Conley of West Virginia. Both guest governors have make arrangements to attend if Governor Cooper is able to arrange his engagements.

Once again the greatest backfield of professional football will swing into action. The two midgets, Glassgow, all-America halfback of Iowa and Bennett, all-western halfback of Indiana, the 1928 and 1929 winners of the Chicago Tribune trophy for being the most valuable men to their team in the Big Ten conference are sure to be in the scoring column.

The famous "Father" Lumpkin has been switched to quarterback leaving the great Indian, McClain of Iowa to handle the fullback post with "Tiny" Lewis of Northwestern, former Chicago sensation.

The game will be called at 8:00 p.m. instead of 7:30.

Leading the list of Brooklyn players is Hardy Kruskamp of Ohio State, "Wild Bill" Kelly, all-America quarterback of Montana, will pilot the team and be assisted by Tom Yablock, Colgate's famous quarterback of last fall. The starting lineup of the teams are as follows:
