Samuel Pond Jones, right hand pitcher, was one of the big disappointments
in 1922.
He was one of the leading pitchers of the league with the Boston Red Sox and when he was traded to the Yanks last winter it was thought he would make a great record with a championship club, but he failed to get started.
After two years spent in Zanesville and Portsmouth, Jones was sold to Cleveland for $800. He remained with the Indians until 1916, when he was traded to Boston in the Speaker-Thomas deal.
He was born in Foodsfield, Ohio, on July 26, 1892. He is 5 feet 10 1/2 inches, weighs 175 pounds and bats and throws right handed.
