John Garber Named General Superintendent by Harbison Walker Company

PITTSBURGH - John A. Garber, above, has been appointed General District Superintendent for the Baltimore and Leslie, Maryland, and Hammond, Indiana, plants of Harbison-Walker Refractories, it has been announced by T.E. Ralston, general production manager for the company.  Mr. Garber's headquarters will be at Pittsburgh.

A native of Portsmouth, Ohio, and a graduate of the University of Idaho, where he received bachelor of science degrees in both mining and metallurgical engineering, Mr. Garber began his career with Harbison-Walker in 1950, al laboratory technician at Hays Laboratory at Pittsburgh.  He subsequently served as kiln foreman with Canadian Refractories, Limited, a H-W subsidiary, and as kiln foreman, assistant superintendent, and superintendent at Baltimore Works before his present appointment.

Prior to joining Harbison-Walker, Mr. Garber was employed by Inland Steel Company, Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corporation, and Garfield Refractories Company.  He is a veteran of service with the U.S. Navy.  He is married and the father of three children.

Mr. Garber succeeds Mr. Ralston, who recently was appointed general production manager.
