STRICKEN WITH APOPLEXY
George H. Watkins of Board of Public Works Seriously Ill.
Columbus, O., Jan. 30 - Dr. Frank L. Watkins, state registrar of vital statistics, was called to Portsmouth by the serious illness of his father. George H. Watkins, president of the Ohio state board of public works, who was stricken with apoplexy at his home in that city.
Watkins' term as president of the board will expire next month and, it is said, he was stated for the position of superintendent of Ohio's canal system. He is 53 years old.

President of State Board of Public Works Passes Away.
Portsmouth, Feb. 8. - George H. Watkins, president of the state board of public works and a member of that body two terms, died here today from a stroke of apoplexy suffered 10 days ago. His second term of office would have expired Feb. 15.
Watkins was a native of Pike county and 50 years old. For years he conducted a general store at Wakefield, Pike county. He came to Portsmouth eight years ago.
