Death Summons Gus Eckley in Philipsburg

Gus Eckley, 78, who had lived more than 50 years at Corbin, died today at the home of a daughter in Philipsburg, where he had been visiting.  He had been in failing health for several months.

A son, Earl Eckley, resides in Helena.

Mr. Eckley was born in Scioto County, Ohio, June 22, 1873, and came to Jefferson City when he was 17 years old.

He had spent the remainder of his life at Corbin, where he was engaged in mining until a few years ago, with the exception of brief moves about the state.

His wife, the former Clara Seasee, died about 13 years ago.

In addition to his son here, survivors include his daughter in Philipsburg, Mrs. Cleve Metcalf; Philipsburg and Fred Eckley of Cut Bank; four grandchildren, Donald Metcalf of Anaconda, Clara Ann Merrifield of Philipsburg, Joan Maire Eckley of Philipsburg, Patricia Eckley of Helena, now serving with the air force at Houston, Texas; three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Alice Nelson of Jefferson City; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted in Retz chapel Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. Henry Koslow of the First Baptist church.  Interment will be in Jefferson City cemetery.
